Athletics are a fun way for students to learn sportsmanship and get needed exercise. Students can participate in sports at Roosevelt. Sports for 4th and 5th grade girls and boys are:
- fall – volleyball
- winter – basketball
- spring – track (3rd-graders can also participate in track)
The Boys and Girls Club offers after-school and summer programs for school-age students. The O.K. Clubhouse is located at the nearby Jim Parsley Community Center, just a short walk from Roosevelt Elementary School. This serves grades 1-5.
The Ambassador Choir has a long tradition of musical excellence. Under the direction of Ms. Becky Miller, the choir performs at school functions and community events. Choir meets once a week after school from October through March. Choir focuses on vocal training, collaboration, listening skills, and the joy of making music with others. Students in grades 3-5 may participate.
New this year: Recorder Club! In the spring, one day a week, select 4-5th graders may participate. Stay tuned for details on this amazing music-making opportunity.

Roosevelt 5th-graders have an opportunity to show their responsibility and leadership as a member of the school safety patrol. Working with adults, the safety patrol helps students and parents to safely cross nearby streets before and after school. Interested students may apply with paraeducator Melinda Lindner.
Roosevelt students in grades 3–5 can apply for the student leadership team. The team of motivated girls and boys are responsible for daily school announcements and school spirit activities. See Ms. Kelly, Counselor, with questions by emailing Patricia.Kelly@vansd.org.
